  • 💡 What: Implemented a prepareSearchIndex function that pre-computes a lowercase search string for each PDF item when the database loads.
  • 🎯 Why: The previous implementation called .toLowerCase() on title, description, category, and author for every item in the database on every keystroke, causing unnecessary CPU overhead and potential UI lag on slower devices.
  • 📊 Impact: Reduces search complexity from O(N * M) (string operations) to O(N) (string inclusion check). Also adds early returns for class/semester filtering to skip ~90% of checks for irrelevant items.
  • 🔬 Measurement: Verified that the new logic correctly filters items and that the application loads without errors. The search index is non-enumerable to prevent bloating localStorage.
