What happened?
Title: VirtualBox DHCP service missing after installation (Windows)
Description:
After installing VirtualBox, the VirtualBox DHCP service is not present in Windows services. As a result, host-only networking does not work and the VM cannot obtain an IP address.
System details:
- VirtualBox version: 7.2.

Problem:
When checking services.msc, VirtualBox DHCP service is missing.
Error message:
EnumQueryServicesStatus: OpenService FAILED 1060
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
Steps already tried:
- Reinstalled VirtualBox as Administrator
- Enabled networking components during installation
- Restarted system
- Checked services.msc
Expected result:
VirtualBox DHCP service should appear and provide IP to host-only adapter.
Actual result:
Service is missing and VM does not receive an IP address.
How can we reproduce this?
Steps to reproduce:
- Download VirtualBox 7.2.6 for Windows.
- Run the installer as Administrator.
- Keep all default installation options, including networking components.
- Complete the installation and restart the system.
- Press Win + R and type: services.msc
- Look for “VirtualBox DHCP Service”.
Result:
The VirtualBox DHCP service is not present in the services list.
Additional check:
Running commands that require the DHCP service shows the error:
EnumQueryServicesStatus: OpenService FAILED 1060
